Dhobikhana Fort kochi

A trade of more than half a century old hidden in the corners of Veli ground, Fort Kochi. Times have changed and the washermen folks are nearing extinction. The only concern from the part of Govt in this issue would take us to some of the tour package organisers who finds a market for this traditional dhobikhana among foreign tourists.

 K. Mani with more than 40 years of experience of throwing the clothes exactly into the spot after washing does it expertly this time also and thankfully it dint hit my camera. He knows well where to place and how to place :)

Saraswathy chechi toiling under bright sun. The work requires great amount exertion and she  does it in style.

They celebrate their hero's Birthday together no matter what. Suresh coming back with dried clothes in hand.

A long walk through the pavement it seems when you can feel the heat boiling even your  sweat.

Kumaran who does the ironing carefully keeps the shirts piled up without single wrinkle left over them.

Ramendran who classifies different clothes and packs them safely does the action repeatedly and diligently.

A humble request for excuses? or is it just confusion regarding the future of Dhobikhana. either way, i found it as a plea that will rest in emptiness like most of them i have seen through my short journeys.
